EIKOSI DYO - FINE JEWELLERY BY MELANIE NYDEGGER - 2012

«A marriage between gold and pure simplicity, influenced by Greece and the maternal protection of childhood.»
A fashion stylist for the last ten years and always passionate about jewellery, Melanie Nydegger found the inspiration for this new collection in Greece, a country where she spent part of her childhood. A trip to one of the Cyclades islands allowed her to reconnect with the land of her childhood memories and awake her creativity to design her first line of jewellery. This eternal dreamer has designed and developed a collection in the image of her sensitive, poetic nature, inspired by her love of Mediterranean culture. Her deep respect for the know-how of goldsmiths, which has been part of Greek custom for thousands of years, nurtured her desire to make it a central part of her work. Melanie Nydegger has a curious and instinctive temperament, constantly looking to discover what makes her tick. In love with freedom, she left her native Switzerland and settled in Paris, where she studied dramatic arts. After performing in front of the camera and on stage, she turned towards fashion looking once more for a new experience. As a self-taught quick learner, she immersed herself in the techniques of jewellery making, and with unbridled enthusiasm learned everything she needed to know from a goldsmith and mentor who took her under his wing. It is by constantly reinventing herself that Melanie Nydegger finds the grace of her inspiration. Reinterpreting the design codes of good luck charms, she has created a breezy collection of jewellery marked by simplicity. With a fierce desire to share her wonderful world of a traveler and to convey the aura of Greece, she enthusiastically embarked on this adventure, which she now calls eikosi dyo. Each piece is made in Greece using traditional methods, respecting the traditions of Greek jewellery that date back millennia, giving them a unique and original aspect, entirely designed in France by Melanie Nydegger. Motivated and inspired by travel, the evolution of eikosi dyo will naturally turn towards other countries and cultures, but gold and Greek culture will always remain at the heart of the designs. The philosophy of the brand is based on love, happiness, childhood, discovery and the meeting with a land; atmospheres that are translated with simplicity into jewellery that can be worn as lightly as if it were a second skin or indeed as a good luck charm. The story behind eikosi dyo lies behind an improbable but powerful meeting on August 22 in Greece, the catalyst that lead to the fulfilment of a long desire to design and create jewellery. Meaning “twenty two” in Greek, eikosi dyo was an obvious choice for the name of the brand.
